Milestones in the progress of Munkfors

From the founding of the company in 1948 to the present day, the years have been filled with continuous progress that has led to our world-leading blade business today.

1948 – At the age of 23, Anders Hallberg started his own saw works under the name Hallbergs Sågindustri. With a loan of 1 500 kronor he bought the basic equipment he needed and began work in a small shed, just 15 m2, in his father’s garden.

First logo1953 – Anders bought a press to produce his own saw blanks. He also changed the name of the company to AB Munkforssågar.

1955 – Saw production was moved to a 50 m2 cellar in a new house built for Anders in Sunnevägen. Anders employed his first fellow worker, Gunnar Larsson.

1965 – Increased business motivated a move to bigger premises, a 340 m2 former joinery works in Forsliden. It was here that the company began to manufacture wide bandsaw blades for industrial woodworking and sawmills.

1970 – Further expansion led to the building of a new factory in Näset totalling 1000 m2.  Production was expected to double and the workforce of seven was set to increase.

1981 – Jarl Hallberg, Anders’ son, became President and found a partner – the company Weldaco of Halmstad – to help realize his ideas about grinding saw teeth. This resulted in a patented profile-grinding machine, which together with the skilled personnel of Munkforssågar, led to the company being a world-leader in bandsaw blades for cutting meat. These products have since been exported to about 50 countries.

1986 – Munkfors changes the logotype. Munkfors logo 1986

2006 – Since the Näset factory was built in 1970 it has been expanded four times. Anders Hallberg, the founder of the company, died in June. He was still very active in the everyday operations of the company to the very end. His sons Jarl and Per-Olov are the President of the Munkfors Group of Companies and Technical Director respectively. His granddaughter, Pernilla Melén, is now the President of AB Munkforssågar.

The business area for wide saw blades and service to the sawmill industry becomes a separate company - Munkfors Sawmill Support AB.
